The Char Yong (Dabu) Association was established in the year 1957 and the Association building was inaugurated by then Deputy Prime Minister Mr Lee Hsien Loong. You may not know that Mr Lee is a Hakka and his ancestral home is at Guye in Dabu. The current Association President is Mr. Lew Chee Beng and our member strength stands at 2,000.
The motto of our Association is to look after the benefits of fellow Hakkas and educate our descendants. Annually, our Association gives out charity funds to needy Hakka elders for tiding over the year and awards scholarships and bursaries to Hakka students. Apart from looking after the welfare of members, our Association donates regularly for purposes of charity and education.
Every year, our Association also celebrates various types of festivals, such as Chinese Lunar New Year, Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-autumn Day, Teacher’s Day, National Day, Christmas Day, ect. For members who are sporty and always looking for another adventure, our youth group organizes various fun-filled outdoors activities such as wakeboarding, roller-blading, kayaking and go-karting.
